Natalie Smith’s Disney Cruise Lines Adventure
Following multiple auditions across the UK, like many of our graduates, Natalie Smith was offered positions by a number cruise lines, including Celebrity Cruises, Jean Ryan Productions and Norwegian Cruise Lines.
After much deliberation, 2015 graduate Natalie chose Disney Cruise Lines, flying out to Canada in January 2016.
“I was very nervous as it was a big step moving so far away from home but mostly excited to start the next chapter in my life.
We rehearsed for two months in Toronto, Canada learning all the shows and learning more about Disney’s history and the company. Disney have their own rehearsal building which is absolutely amazing.”
Natalie performs two shows every night. “Through the week I perform in a bar and outside on deck for pirate night, but every other day I perform in the beautiful Walt Disney Theatre. The shows we perform are high Broadway quality and I feel so blessed to be given this opportunity.”
Disney’s Fantasy cruise liner travels the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico seas and Natalie has visited:
- Toronto, Canada
- Florida, USA
- Tortola, Caribbean
- St Thomas, Caribbean
- Disneys private island ‘Castaway Cay’ in the Bahamas
- Cozumel, Mexico
- Falmouth, Jamaica, Caribbean
- Grand Cayman, Caribbean
“Ship life is unbelievable! I do a couple of shifts helping greet the Disney characters during the day, helping families take pictures with the characters! I have free time to work out at the gym, do some reading, get off the ship if we are in port somewhere.”
The size of the ship surprised Natalie when she first saw it. “The ship is absolutely massive and so pretty compared to other ships that dock beside us.”
Before Natalie left, she was featured in the Cumbernauld Newspaper.
What does it take to have a successful career in dance?
“Drive and passion! You need to be so dedicated to push yourself beyond your limits, take risks, work hard and be true to yourself.”
“Dance For All prepared me for the real world.
I enjoyed how much I was pushed by all the teachers and how much was fitted into the three years I was there. I also sat my teacher qualifications for DDE Modern and Tap, so this has helped for when I want to teach in the future.
The most important thing to know about Dance For All is that it will bring the best out in you. It’s amazing how many different genres are covered and also for the opportunity to sit teaching exams.”
Natalie posts photos and videos of her adventures on Instagram.
