Creative Contemporary Dance Classes

Calling all pre-teens aged 9 and above: due to popular demand, we’re opening up our Creative Contemporary Dance classes to 9yrs+, to be held every Wednesday from 4.45 – 5.45pm.
Our Creative Contemporary Dance classes explore story and theme led choreography, with floor work, contract & release, fall & recovery, western & non-western influences, contact, progressive styles, legwork and improvisation.
These fun-filled, high-energy and emotive dance classes, with our experienced tutor Samm Baigrie, will engage children and teens to improve their technique and give them an opportunity to explore their creative expression.
“What do I like most? The dances, staff, music & pupils! It’s always enjoyable and we get pushed to always do our best. I can’t remember a time before DFA! It’s never boring, always fun and you make lifelong friends.”
– Aimee, 15, Ballet, Tap & Jazz pupil (12 years with DFA)
“I’d never done dance classes before, but you get such a confidence boost, and meet new people you’ll keep in touch with for life. I really enjoyed seeing myself improve and the relationships I made with the teachers & other pupils. Everyone is welcome – there is a class for everyone.”
– Sula, 14, Ballet, Jazz & Contemporary (1.5 years with DFA)

Our children’s and teenager’s dance classes are held at our Edinburgh studios in Stockbridge. They run termly, Mondays through to Saturdays, with Easter performances and Summer Holiday Clubs.
All pupils are given the opportunity to perform on stage in our dance productions – senior pupils from grade four upwards can perform each year in our Spring Fling and our junior pupils can perform in our biannual Easter shows.
Dance has been proven to give participants physical, cognitive and emotional health benefits. The balanced workout improves posture, stamina, agility, and flexibility; while exercising the mind through focus, coordination and motor skills development.
