Established in 1985, Dance For All amalgamated with the prestigious Theatre School of Dance in 2000. Based in Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh. Dance For All is a hub for dance education at all levels, from children of all ages, through to professional dance students.
DFA is a Royal Academy of Dance, ISTD and Spanish Dance Society registered school and is also an officially approved centre for ISTD dance tutor training.
Dance For All’s Principal and Artistic Director Tracy Hawkes RTS ARAD SDS IdB(1), MEd, is one of Scotland’s best known dance teachers. Promoting inclusivity and enjoyment in a caring environment, she directs an inspirational faculty of dance tutors, including some of the most respected and renowned dance professionals in Scotland today.
The great versatility and vast experience of Dance For All’s faculty is reflected in the immense variety of dance classes and courses held at our studios in Stockbridge. Over 70 weekly classes are taught each week to children from 2½ – 17 years of age and adults from 18 – 96! Our schedule of classes includes childrens’ RAD Ballet, ISTD Tap, Acro, Contemporary, and Modern and adults’ Bollywood, Pilates, Tap and Ballet.
Whether you want to brush up your previous expertise or learn a completely new form of dance from scratch, Dance For All has numerous options on offer from beginners to advanced level. All classes at Dance For All are a great way to exercise, offer numerous health benefits and provide a progressive learning experience, allowing you to hone your dancing skills whilst building a more flexible and strong body. Whether you are looking for expert and caring tuition for your children, a professional dance training or simply some ‘me’ time for yourself, Dance For All is a hub of expertise and provides an inspiring dance experience.
Since 2000, Dance For All has run the multi award-winning Professional Dance Training Course, the longest running full-time dance course of its kind in Scotland. The two-year course offers complete professional dance training alongside an HND in Professional Dance (in collaboration with Edinburgh College). DFA dance students graduate with a thorough dance education in all the techniques and skills required to pursue and sustain a successful, varied and lengthy dance career.
Within the intimate and supportive family atmosphere of our college, DFA students are encouraged to reach their individual potential, and to grow into confident, positive, versatile and self-disciplined dance professionals who have an excellent education for life.
In 2010 we were delighted to announce that the accomplished writer, playwright, actor and director Steven Berkoff became our official Patron.
Berkoff has created numerous adaptations and plays for the stage, authored a variety of books and acted in a number of films. These include blockbusters such as A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, Octopussy, Rambo and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
He is “thrilled to be a Patron” as Dance For All is a “wonderful school.”
